Proverbs 11:25 - “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”
What a great reminder that we are blessed to be a blessing.
God designed us with the intent that we would put our time, talent and treasure to work for the Kingdom of God. That we would pour ourselves out into the lives of the lost and broken around us and in exchange we would be filled by Him through the Holy Spirit. We are all called to be the hands and feet of Jesus right where we are planted.
And we don’t have to look very far to find the lost and the broken. In the condition that this world is in – we are literally surrounded by lost and broken people all day every day. It can be overwhelming to think about trying to bring God’s love and healing to them all. So just start with the One. Ask God every day to just put one person in front of you that you can pray for, minister to or serve in some way. It doesn’t have to be big or dramatic or even pretty. Help a stranger. Hold a door. Smile. Carry some groceries. Listen. Share your love. Put someone else first.
And don’t forget the church. We love to sit around and complain about the condition of the modern church yet how many of us are actually serving in our church? Or do you walk in feeling entitled? I mean after all you worked hard all week and you even helped a few people so now it’s your turn to sit and be served, to be filled and refreshed and strengthened….. sound familiar? And yet time and time again the Bible reminds us to especially serve our fellow believers.
Galatians 6:10 - “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
And last but not least, don’t forget your homes. Serve your spouse. Give your family your time, talents and treasures too. We can’t be out there trying to save the entire world and neglect our homes, our own families. But many of us do just that. And our families are left feeling neglected and unloved. Sometimes the people most in need of our time and ministry are in our own homes.
And while you are out there serving God, don’t forget to tell people about Him. That’s kind of the whole point.
